One day while taking an afternoon nap
A soft and gentle sound awakened me
And as I lay in my comfortable bed
I questioned, should I get up to see
Realizing that the noise was continuing
I slowly crawled from my warm covers
And made my way through my long hall
Wondering just what would I discover
Cautiously as I opened my patio door
I was greeted by a cold frosty snow
As the time was the middle of winter
When the frigid northern winds blow
Searching as to what made this sound
I looked around my bushes and trees
And did behold her shiny green eyes
The most beautiful pair I did ever see
Peeking at me with a look of confusion
She gently meowed and seemed to say
Can I please come inside and get warm
For I am so cold and hungry this day
Reaching down I slowly picked her up
Holding her tightly, rubbing her fur
And trying to quiet her shaking body
As before a fireplace she sat to purr
Just where had this beauty come from
I pondered as she now quietly did lay
And why did she pick my country home
What could she be thinking I would say
Evening shadows danced on my walls
And the kitten was all fed and warm
As her green eyes lovingly captured me
My heart filled with her endearing charm
Years have passed and she still remains
And she greets me each waking day
Showering me with love and affection
This is now her home and here she'll stay
