Foggy Country Memories Cross My Mind

Every now and then things feel just right
In spite of how they appear
voices I love take on a softer tone
faces I love are tension free

The evening breeze is gentle
all is well in my world
God knows how I loved those days
and how badly I need them

The sounds are still there
floating in the air
I know they are
for sometimes I can almost hear them

The old cow bawling for her calf
the chickens clucking and pecking
the old rooster,crowing
at the break of day

My grandmothers hoe chopping the earth
my grandfathers knife sliding
across a whetstone
the milk hitting the bottom of a bucket
as a pet lays watching
Corn being shelled from the cob
by my brother
Mother hanging wash on the line
The steps of my dad carrying hay
Sounds of my sisters at play

These are the sounds of life
in the process of being lived
Those peaceful sounds

They never go away completely
As "Foggy Memories" cross my mind
that's always where I want to be
