Golden Cat

By Clara Blair

Golden cat, sleeping soundly on the pillows,
Sleeping soundly, almost soundlessly you purr

In your sleep, purring softly as I touch you
Softly whispering silly soft endearments as you
Sleep, knowing only safety,
softness, care and doting.

Pampered, treasured, loved for what you are
And aren’t, fluffy darling, nature tamed yet wild.
From your mother’s nest I took you, food and shelter
Guaranteed.

Promised to be kind to you,..
Preempted things you would not need. For you,
Perpetual semi-childhood, play and rest, security.

Your golden eyes seem calm and knowing. Do you ever
Measure me? Have I kept the unsigned bargain?

Warm and Soft, your muzzle rests gently on my skin.
Thick and Silky,
your fur rises and falls as you purr your satisfaction.

..and my Love is Guaranteed
