Puppy Love

[ Hey, mom..it's for real ]


Puppy love? Could be !..

We met when we were kids
three or four years old I think

We rode stick horses, and ate green apples
And all the silly things kids do
And did all the things neighborhood kids do
He even taught me to roller-skate,
[down three flights of cement steps of the church]
I lived to tell about it!

He told me he was my best friend
[he was]
I told my mother he liked me and we were
Going to get married when we grew up
“Puppy Love” she said
and.. she sure laughed!

We grew up and went our own ways until one day
My car needed repair
Guess Who?
The same funny grin, hair in his face, dirt all over
And a wonderful twinkle in his brown eyes

He asked me out and I felt like a kid again
Three months later he asked me to marry him
By nailing note after note to my door
How could I say NO?

Now we are almost forty years old
We have three wonderful sons.
I still have his notes… and
He still has that certain twinkle
When he says…
“ I love you honey ”
we still say
“ you are my best friend “

Do you suppose ‘ Puppy Love ‘
Could be for real mom ??
