The STREET WALKER

She walks the back streets avoiding dangerous eyes, and bad company, too many heartless goodbyes. Silky golden hair and wishfull eyes announce her vanity. The winter was the worst time for her sanity.

Daylight, a dangerous time for this wandering gal,
Desperately seeking love, afraid to hope for a pal.
Diligently avoids assassins, who offer no help.
Daily moving shadow to darkness, stopping to weep.

Footsteps approach, she tenses and senses trouble.
Frightened, turns to see something new, not sensible.
Forgetting her fears she approaches this stranger,
Fully expecting the worse, a hand reaches for her.

The unexpected soft touch weakens her. Is she kind?
Thunder announces rain, she leaves the ground behind, Thoughts assault her, now that she is in the arms.Tenderness felt, but has memory of false alarms.

Be still little one, your days of wandering are over for good. Bad memories and your sadness, I would erase if I could.

Benignly she pets her golden fur and scratches her ear. She will not harm, a friend, you have nothing more to fear.
