It's The Eyes And They Have It

While strolling along a busy main street
Early one cold and wintry morning
My walk was suddenly interrupted
By a cat running past with no warning

From whince she came I had no clue
Where she was going I did not know
But one thing I knew for certain
She wanted to get out of the snow

Her coat was in need of a good brush
As it was matted, dirty, and long
And I knew as I gazed upon her
That to no one did she belong

Slowly and cautiously I approached her
Wanting only to show her I cared
When suddenly she stopped to face me
As if seeing if I had something to share

With cold trembling hands I reached for her
And as she slowly raised her head
I found myself gazing into beautiful eyes
That had a longing to be loved and fed

Wrapping her in my old tattered coat
Hugging her and keeping her warm
I brought her home to stay with me
Keeping her safe and free from harm

With fur that is now white as pure cotton
She watches each day as a poem I write
And as her blue eyes sparkle with love
They are no longer filled with fright
