THE LAWS of Time

We have eyes that see and ears that hear. Even if there is a hearing aid in the ear and glasses on our noses, it is important to tell ourselves what we have, even though it is the bare essence of it. The eyes help the ear hear and hearing aids help our sight.

Listening is essential. We cannot function well in anything if we cannot listen and we cannot see. We even listen with our minds and with the spirit that quickens us to wise decision making.

Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce wrote, "Our fathers gave us many laws, which they learned from their fathers."

These laws were very good, but if they are not serving us well we must listen and heed. Because we listen and know does not mean we do what they tell us to do.

This is the way American Indians kept the culture alive — to see and hear and repeat to all those following, and life was more beautiful and more peaceful because of those who kept the law.
