There is a time in most of
our lives when we turn a corner
and nothing is familiar.

In what seems to be a split second,
things change, life takes
a U-turn and everything is
strange and there is little left
of former times.

The most important place
along a new road is where we
stop looking for reasons why
we are there. From this point
it is all ahead—forward to
new times,
new places,
new people,
and the opportunity to
be a new person.
There are always
ties to background
and home turf, precious ties that
will always play on our hearts.

But an avalanche of new
events so often covers what
we have left behind.
There is no point in looking back —
we cannot touch it except in our hearts.
And the heart makes
all the difference
for it holds in safety and in peace all that
makes life dear.
It makes us
who we are and gives us courage
to move on.
